SEO challenges in 2017

New Year – new challenges! The topic of search engine optimization also offers a lot of talking material in 2017 and more approaches on how to drive your own business forward. Even if today media buying is preferred, it is nevertheless quite advisable to use alternative traffic sources or at least there again and again be informed about innovations so that one does not lose the connection. At the SEO one does not really come by.

Of course, 2017 will not change all of a sudden and the basic factors in the search engine optimization remain valid. But there is still a lot of change, especially user behavior, which should be addressed if good placements in Google are to be achieved. The biggest theme this year is the mobile search. This is not really something new, because it has been around for quite some time – but Google puts even more emphasis on this area and thus you can also do a lot to achieve more success here.

Why is mobile optimization so important?

The latest mobile advertising forecast by Zenith predicts 2017 that mobile internet usage will grow to 75 percent worldwide – seven percent more than 2016. In the design of websites, the mobile version is no longer an additional task, But it is the main!

And in this context, of course, the speed of the website plays an important role. Google itself is focussing its AMP project. If you do not want to jump on this train, you have to make sure that you do not have endless loads of graphics and extras such as JavaScript etc. when calling the website from a mobile device.

It is equally important that usability is also considered. On the smartphone or tablet, the navigation is completely different and no one would like to scroll to infinity or click away PopUps, which is about the complete content (which will be for Google in the future a negative criterion in the evaluation).

Mobile embossed index

If so far the mobile search results were calculated on the basis of desktop pages, a change will take place here in 2017 and the mobile index will be included in the calculation. First experiments have been going on since November last year and it is already clear that there will be only one index in the future, but this will probably be calculated on the basis of the mobile version of websites.

The increasingly mobile use of the Internet is also shown by the fact that more and more voice requests are started. Thanks to Siri, Google Now, and other assistants, you do not need to tap the small keys again, if you want to start a search, but you can easily enter them with your voice. This, of course, also involves a change in the search queries, since spoken language and writing are quite different. The frequency of Longtail search requests will increase even more, and as questions are usually asked by language, “w-questions” will be even more interesting in 2017.
