Page speed – which values are crucial?

The loading time of websites is a topic that occupies many. Of course, you want to visually offer visitors a lot, like to use many graphics and supports the usability and user experience then with various Javascripts and the like. In addition, there are ads that are loaded from external and before you know it, the user must wait several seconds until the website is fully loaded. But that’s far too much and the patience is simply gone from the users. They quickly disappeared and the nicely designed website is not really seen.

Too high load times and the associated rather negative user experience are also a sign for Google that the website is not well optimized. And that is then also negatively rated there and even soon made the official ranking factor. As a website operator, it’s important to keep an eye on the pagespeed and make sure the site loads fast. A regular review is also advised – but then it comes right to the important question: How does Google actually measures the page speed?

There are now some tools which can be used to check the page speed of a website. If you let every tool do the test at the same time, there are different results which are indeed correct and which Google prefers for classification. As it has now become known, amongst other things, Google uses the performance data from the Chrome browser to measure the speed. For this, the user data of the Chrome users are consulted. While the data alone is not crucial, it is considered very important by Google because, for example, users can experience a positive effect from HTTP / 2 support that Googlebot cannot detect by using Chrome.

In addition to all the possibilities offered by the technology, in the end it is still the user who provides the best information. Even if, as in this case, it happens more in the background via the browser reports.
